Motion 62
The Motion was presented by MP Sameer Zuberi to call on the Canadian government to leverage Canada’s Refugee and Humanitarian Resettlement Program to expedite the entry of 10,000 Uyghur refugees living stateless due to the genocide carried out by the Chinese Communist Party [CCP]. This motion recognizes Uyghurs who fled to third-world countries face continued diplomatic and economic pressure from the People’s Republic of China to detain and deport Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims leaving them without a safe haven.
Who are the Uyghurs?
“Uyghurs” [or “Uighurs”] are an ethnically and culturally turkic people living in East Turkestan. Also known as “Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region” the name given by the Chinese Communist Party [CCP] in 1949 when they illegally occupied our land in attempts to assimilate the Uyghur people and culture. There are estimated 20 million Uyghurs living in East Turkestan however the Chinese sources claim there are only 11.65 million Uyghurs.
CURRENT STATE
The current climate for Uyghurs living in East Turkestan is considered to be the darkest chapter in history of East Turkestan and of Uyghurs. The CCP has targeted Uyghurs in their own homeland labeling them as “Nationalists” , “Separatists” and other false accusations.
Since April 2017, millions of Uyghurs have been illegally detained by CCP and put into modern day concentration camps. There are currently over 3 million innocent Uyghurs in these concentration camps. These detainees are not given fair or appropriate court trials if given one at all. china has claimed any form of resistance as “islamic terrorisim”. the CCP has destroyed monumental mosques, banned the use of Uyghur language, prohibited any form of islamic practice. There are also reported to be over 500,000 Uyghur children in state run orphanages which resemble residential schools. They prohibit our children to learn their own language and history. Essentially giving them a chinese identity including chinese name.
